Begin the journey here – https://youtu.be/HOxgeJatG5Y
We upload a new video every day at noon central until all the videos have been made available (June 10, 2024).
Letters to MOM come from a box of letters found in an abandoned storage unit. The letters sat in another storage for several months before I looked at them and read a couple of them. At that point I thought I would get to all of them soon.
I was telling someone about them and they suggested I read them as if I just got them in the mail and allow others to hear how Jim’s life transitioned from teen leaving home to being in World War II.
You can see by the letters that Jim was very likely just 18 or 19 when he leaves his home in Bellaire, Ohio as the box of letters included a graduation announcement from 1941, and heads to Washington, DC in early 1942. He writes home and tells of his life as he begins work for the Veterans in DC before being transferred to New York City since the War Department needed the building his group was working in.
He continues to write about his friends who little by little go to the military, along with his adventures in NYC. He ends up going into the military and you will have to listen to the letters to hear his side of the story.
We think this is a unique glimpse into the life of a young man during one of America’s most turbulent times. A rather historic view of what life was really like for the average American during this era.
We hope you enjoy the letters as much as we enjoyed bringing them to you. We ask that you like, subscribe and share these videos if at all possible so that others who enjoy history will find them.
